Fine Dining at Lake Constance - Ophelia
The city of Constance is wonderfully nestled at the eponymous lake on the southern border of Germany where the Rhine continuous on towards his long way through Europe. In one of the best areas of the city directly at the lake you will find the SLH boutique hotel Riva (review will follow). This hotel boasts the Two-Michelin-starred restaurant Ophelia where chef Dirk Hoberg celebrates fine cuisine with a local touch. Enjoy the show!
Ambience
The hotel is housed in fairly modern building attached to an Art Nouveau-style villa that is the Ophelia. Since it was summer time we enjoyed the wonderful terrace with view of the lake and the fountain in the Constance bay, somehow reminiscent of Geneva.
Apéritif
Before the actual dinner I enjoyed a drink by the pool on the Riva’s rooftop terrace. I had a Moët & Chandon Ice Imperial - a Champagne to drink on the rocks. Unfortunately it wasn’t to my taste. Next time: regular Champagne.
The Menu
I chose four courses from the variable summer menu and a corresponding wine journey.
Amuse-bouche
1st Course - Langoustine
Corresponding wine - Aufricht Weissburgunder 2016
2nd Course - Ray
Interlude
3rd Course - Luma beef
Corresponding wine - Hohner Pinot Noir 2013
Interlude
4th Course - Dessert: Raspberry
Corresponding wine - Hohner St. Patrick Rosé
Coffee

Verdict | It was a great experience on the terrace of the Ophelia. We were blessed with amazing weather and fitting food on the plate. The local touch was also visible in the corresponding wine journey and the stops of that journey were well chosen. Everything was up to the expected standards. I say, if not for Lake Constance and the old town, at least stop for dining at the Ophelia. |
